Bedford Holmes Selected as New Executive Director

Bedford HolmesThe Commission of Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center is pleased to announce that Bedford Holmes has been unanimously selected to serve as Executive Director.  This selection concludes a nation wide search to determine the successor to Dorman and Janet Leader who served Zephyr Point for nearly twenty years.

A native of Austin, Texas, Bedford has served the past eight years as the Executive Director of Tillikum Center for Retreats and Outdoor Ministries of George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon.  While in that role, he was also an adjunct professor in the Health and Human Performance and Christian Ministries department.

During his 26 years in Christian leadership, Bedford has served as the Director of the Pine Cove Institute of Wilderness Studies, Dean of Students at All Saints Episcopal School and Associate Director of Pine Cove Christian Conference Center – all in Tyler, Texas.

Bedford is a certified Director and Site Inspector for the American Camping Association as well as a member and Sectional Leader of Christian Camp and Conference Association.  In addition to his ministry leadership, he has served in volunteer capacities as a school board trustee, church elder chairman, mission board chairman as well as working as a short term missionary in Eastern Europe.

Bedford received a Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Texas and a Masters Degree in Education from George Fox University.  He and his wife Sara have been married 30 years and currently attend Chehalem Valley Presbyterian Church in the Newberg, Oregon area. Sara is a dental hygienist who participates in dental mission clinics.

The Holmes have three grown daughters:  Abbie, Maggie and Bonnie.  Abbie, an emergency room nurse, and her husband Jeff, a psychologist, are expecting their first child soon, making the Holmes grandparents for the first time.  Maggie is finishing a Masters Degree in Anthropology at the University of Hyderabad in India, while Bonnie is a student in the Saint Louis University Nursing School studying in Madrid, Spain.

Bedford and Sara are excited about the upcoming move to Lake Tahoe.  According to Bedford, “This is definitely a calling of God.  As a practitioner and teacher in the field of camp and conference ministry, I look forward to working with the staff and commission as we serve God’s people.  I feel that my experience with adults, seniors, college students and kids will be helpful at Zephyr Point as we seek to broaden our ministry offerings.  Having served PCUSA churches in the past, I look forward to getting to know our guests and program participants.”
