A Church Choir Professional’s Summer Seminar
Tuning @ Tahoe (August 5-10, 2012) is a conference for traditional church choral professionals from all denominations and church sizes. Through seminars, classes and workshops we focus on conducting skills, vocal pedagogy, worship design, rehearsal techniques and 10 reading sessions featuring more than 20 publishers. Sponsoring publishers include ECS, Oxford, Hal Leonard, Hope, Beckenhorst, Hinshaw, Fred Bock, Gentry, Kjos, Pavane, Augsburg, Morningstar and more. Past clinicians include Weston Noble, Charles Bruffy, Jo-Michael Scheibe, Brad Ellingboe and Peter Aston to name a few. Allan Petker – Dean
Allan Petker is a composer and arranger with over 250 published works in numerous catalogs. He also conducts the Santa Clarita Master Chorale (Los Angeles area), Consort Chorale (San Francisco Bay area) and is Music Director at the First Presbyterian Church, San Pedro. He serves as Director of Publications for the Fred Bock Music Companies and is President of Pavane Publishing.
Charles Bruffy – Conducting Track
Charles Bruffy has been Artistic Director of the Kansas City Chorale since 1988 and of the Phoenix Bach Choir since 1999. In addition, Charles is Director of Music at Rolling Hills Presbyterian church and is actively involved with workshops, clinics and region and all-state choirs throughout the United States. Recent international performances have included the Verdi Requiem at the Sydney Opera House and Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and Dvorak’s Te Deum in Smetana Hall, Prague. Katharin Rundus – Vocal Pedagogy Track
Katharin Rundus, DMA, is a singer, a voice teacher and a choral conductor. She is the Director of Vocal Studies at Fullerton College where she teaches voice and oversees the more than one hundred and fifty students studying voice either privately or in class. During her tenure there, she has conducted the Fullerton College Chamber Singers and the Women’s Chorale. She also maintains a voice studio at California State University, Long Beach. Ken Medema – Spiritual Track
Ken Medema has been unable to see with his physical eyes from the time he was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Medema studied music therapy at Michigan State university in Lansing, where he concentrated heavily on performance skills in piano and voice. He worked as a music therapist in Fort Wayne, Indiana, returned to Michigan State for a master’s degree, then worked for four years as a music therapist at Essex County Hospital in New Jersey. In 1973, Medema became a full-time performing and recording artist. His skills have taken him around the globe, from serving in church social halls to performing in major concert halls, bringing his unique mix of music and ministry to all in attendance.
